MJ’s Radish Soup

November 14, 2017 by MJIsola Leave a Comment

For this pick, I decided to begin including things like recipes and, well, whatever else I want to share. Here, we start with radish soup. Don’t hesitate to make this soup, the aroma while sautéing is worth it alone.

MJ’s Radish Soup

2 tbsp oil
2 cups radishes (16 ounces, quartered)
1/2 cup red onion (diced large)
2 medium red potatoes (cut into one inch cubes)
2 cups milk (almond to low fat)
1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp white pepper (or black)
1/2 tsp hot paprika
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
Dash hot sauce

-Sauté radish/onions ( 5 to 6 minutes)
-Add potato (sauté 2 to 3 minutes)
-Add milk and spices
-Bring to boil, then simmer till potato is soft
-Use blender or immersion blender, blend in small batches

For this recipe, be sure you are using a high smoke oil, for you will be sautéing things for a spell.

“Whiteout,” a snowy romance, coming this Friday. Memories fly like snowflakes through Rand’s mind when he finds himself alone during a storm. But how can he be alone when he is haunted by him? Will the memories, accumulating faster than the snow, bury him or will Rand survive the storm and love again? Check back this Friday, for “It’s starting to snow!”

Shinto Deity in Human Form

November 5, 2017 by MJIsola Leave a Comment

Yesterday, I came across this picture of a Shinto deity in human form. It caught my eye, and as it goes, this picture is in the public domain. As I return to my Shinto posting, I have been looking for a visual icon to use for these posts. This may well be one to use.

Apparently, it dates from 794–1185. As the Metropolitan Museum of Art catalog states:

This small statue of a seated courtier is a classic example of a Shinto deity (kami) represented in human form. The artist constructed it through the ichiboku-zukuri (single-block) method, which uses one piece of wood for the entire sculpture. Despite the insect damage throughout (common in Shinto statues of this period), the exposed wood grain—symmetrically centered on the face—gives the work a dramatic effect and strong presence.

Even in picture form, I agree. Its countenance catches the eye.
